Preventing homelessness

With rising rent costs and a lack of affordable housing, our prevention of homelessness work is more vital than ever before.

More than rough sleeping - HARP

Preventing Homelessness

As more people face the threat of losing their homes due to rising rents and a shortage of affordable housing, our work to prevent homelessness has never been more important. At HARP, we’re here to help people stay in their homes and connect with the support they need to get through these challenging times.

What we’re doing to meet increasing need

To respond to the rising need for homelessness prevention, we’ve opened a new Prevention Hub, thanks to generous support from our funders. Since opening in October 2024, the hub has become a welcoming space where people can access practical help and guidance. Our prevention team works closely with individuals and families at risk, supporting them to navigate eviction processes, housing applications, and more. By working alongside landlords and councils, we aim to prevent rough sleeping and make sure everyone can access the services and advocacy they need to stay safe and in their homes.

If you need help you can contact our team here.

How we help people

At HARP, our prevention hub offers a range of vital services, including:

Triage: At initial meetings our team takes the time to quickly understand each person’s situation. We prioritise cases based on urgency, making sure those who need help most receive immediate support.

Information, advice, and guidance: We’re here to help people access the support they need – whether it’s housing, benefits, budgeting, or mental health services. We can guide, refer, and signpost to the right help for the situation.

Personalised support: Our team creates personalised plans, tracks progress, and provide ongoing support to help people stay housed and achieve lasting stability.

Housing Assistance: Our team works with landlords, councils, and housing associations to help people access affordable housing.

Comprehensive Support: We support all areas of life that can affect someone’s ability to stay housed, including mental and physical health, employment, training, and connecting with other services.

Collaborative Partnerships: We work with local government, community groups, and businesses to reach more people. Our team also runs drop-ins at a local food bank to provide advice and support where it’s needed most.
